Chapter Fifteen

Jen was happier than she’d ever been since she was a child. She’d found the right man for her even though he was from a different planet and was a goblin—good goblin.

For a moment, she really believed she was going to die. Entire civilizations had been wiped out from foreign diseases. The Aztecs were an example, if she recalled her history correctly.

And after having the best sex of her life, she felt alive and ready to take on anything. Being close to him brought tingles to her skin. She couldn’t wait to introduce him to her friends when she found them.

She’d been patient while he tracked, asking questions and trying to keep her mind occupied as he did what he could. Being a city girl, she had no clue how to navigate such an environment. Without street signs and GPS, she could forget going to any new place.

They had been walking for a while in silence. She wasn’t sure if something was wrong or if he was focused on the trail. He hadn’t been so quiet during their other travels.

“Is everything all right?” she asked him.

His back stiffened. “Why would you ask that?”

“You’re just quieter than normal.” Behind her, Thunder made a horse noise. Hyz’s conversation with his horse was weird. It seemed like the animal responded to what Hyz said. But Thunder was a horse. No way was that possible. He probably just made sounds in reply to Hyz’s voice.

Hyz spun around toward her. She stepped back in surprise. She’d been following close enough to reach out and tap his ass. And, boy, would she like to tap that again. She felt her face flush a bit from her thoughts.

He said, “Do you have a rock that glows?”

The strange question left her speechless for a moment. “You mean like the rocks the witch gave the three princesses?”

His wide eyes told her he hadn’t expected her response. “Seriously? What’s up with your planet and flashy rocks?”

He scowled and turned away, continuing through the trees, saying nothing.

She caught up to him. “Why did you ask?”

“No reason,” he replied, but she heard the difference in his voice. Something was up.

“Yes, there is. Why?”

“No, really. I was just curious,” her answered.

She rolled her eyes. “Of all the things you could be curious about, you choose a glowing rock?”

She hoped he’d stop and talk to her, face to face. But it seemed like he was avoiding her.

“Hyz,” she said, “what does the rock mean?”

He shrugged. “I don’t know,” he mumbled.

“Hyz,” she growled, done with this silent treatment shit. “Tell me.”

“All right,” he turned to her. “A woman with a streak of white through her black hair told me that my true mate would have a rock that glowed when near me.”

Wait. She’d seen that same woman. She tried to pull the image from her mind. There was a spinning carousel with horses. Something about Thunder. A snippet played through her mind. The three queens...bring them together. She gasped.

“Hyz,” she blurted, “I need to find a trio of queens.
